Memorial Baptist Church Core Values
1. Relevant
We believe that knowing Jesus as savior by believing in His Gospel transforms lives. Our eternity has changed and our life now has changed. In obedience to Jesus’ command, rather than isolating ourselves from the culture we strive to take the life changing relationship with Jesus available and understandable to our culture.
(Mat 28:19-20) "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, {20} teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
(1 Cor 9:20-22) “To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not being myself under the Law, so that I might win those who are under the Law; {21} to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law. {22} To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak; I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means save some.”
2. Authenticity.
When Jesus came as a man He demonstrated authentic living. There was nothing fake or pretentious about Him. He lived in public as he did in private. Our call to follow Him, requires us to be authentic in the same sense. We are to real and transparent. It means we will love one another as Jesus loved and be quick to forgive one another knowing that we all struggle and need the Grace of God.
(Eph 2:8-10) For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; {9} not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. {10} For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
3. Integrity
Jesus always told the truth. Jesus called Himself, “the truth.” He sent the “Spirit of truth, ” (the Holy Spirit) to be with us always and then gave us His Word which is “truth.” We are committed follow the person of “truth,” be sensitive to the guidance of the “Spirit of Truth,” and the accept the revealed truth in the Word. Through study, meditation and prayer we are transformed to become more like Jesus.
(John 14:6) Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
(John 16:13-15) "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. {14} "He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. {15} "All things that the Father has are Mine; therefore I said that He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you.
(John 17:17) "Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.
(Col 3:9-10) Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, {10} and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him--
4. Community/Family
Our community of faith called “the church.” When coming to Christ we have been adopted into the family of God. As in any family we do not always agree but work out our problems with love and compassion. We overlook faults and agree to treat each other with respect and love.
5. Service
Following Jesus means looking for opportunities to serve our church family and others with Jesus as model. Jesus washed the feet of His disciples demonstrating the servant’s heart and attitude. We should do the same within the church family. A broader application is serving our neighbors, community and world. This allows the world to know what having a relationship with Jesus is all about. Through service or ministry, we are opening doors for the Gospel to be shared.
