Dennis was born to Christian parents and accepted the Lord as Savior at eight years old. Even as a child Dennis felt that he had a call on his life to be a preacher and as teen, he was the leader of his church youth group. When he met Bonnie in college he led her to the Lord. They were married in 1972 and have two grown children, two grandchildren.
Dennis was a lay youth leader in each church he and Bonnie belonged to from the time they were married until 1988. He was licensed and ordained at First Baptist Church of Citrus Park, Tampa, Florida and it was at this church he began to work full time as Youth Pastor and Financial Administrator.
In 1991 he took a group of about 25 teens and adults to Honduras, Central America on a mission trip. It was then that he felt the call to missions. He and Bonnie went to live in Honduras as independent missionaries in 1992. Dennis was pastor of an English speaking church and was able to go to the villages all over Honduras preaching with a Spanish interpreter.
They lived in LaCeiba, Honduras for five years, and during that time he not only pastored the New Fellowship Baptist Church, but also started a very successful youth group. He was able to lead the church in buying new property, and then arranged for groups from North and South Carolina to come build a new large sanctuary.
Since 1997 he has been the pastor of two churches where he also started youth groups and children’s programs.
Bonnie was the only child of Christian parents who raised her to be morally strong. She went to church most Sundays but never quite understood the gospel until she met Dennis. She knew who Jesus was and that he died on the cross and rose again, but didn’t know for sure if she was going to go to heaven when she died. Bonnie never knew about the personal relationship that the Lord wants to have with each of us. Dennis showed her the verse that says that we can know for sure we’re saved. And just by having faith in Jesus and asking him to forgive your sins, you HAVE eternal life.
1 John 5:13-14
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. NIV
Bonnie made the decision to trust what God says and she became born again. She began seeing more great verses in the Bible and wanted to know more about what God says. She loves reading and studying the Bible and helping others to love it, too.
