Missions and Evengelism Ministry Team (MEMT)

Meets every 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the lounge - September to June.

Prayer time every Thursday at 11:45 am, in the lounge.

Through MEMT - the Missions and Evangelism Ministry Team - SASS supports 3 full-time missionaries. We are the primary support for a missionary serving with YWAM in South East Asia, we contribute to the work of a couple through Greater Europe Mission in Canada and Latvia, and through Partners International we also sponsor a Brazilian national, planting churches along this country’s vast coastline. For a number of years now SASS has also contributed to the Healing Touch Ministry through our missionary in SE Asia. Hundreds of people have received life saving surgeries and treatment, and many of these have come to know Christ thanks to the dedication and love of the team of volunteers.

MEMT also operates a shopping program for shut-ins (Shopping4Neighbours). In addition, food items are collected for Harvest Project, baby clothing for Pregnancy Care Centre (we provide wool to eager knitters), toques for the Light House Harbour Ministries, and used postage stamps for the Canadian Bible Society. Members of our group also cycle for the Canadian Bible Society’s “Bike for Bibles” and take part in the 'Ride for Refuge' where we ride for Ratanak International. We are beginning to develop a relationship with Servants Anonymous, an organization working with marginalized women in Vancouver.

Throughout the year our team regularly updates the Church about God’s work around the world in a focus time called “God’s Global Vision”.  This takes place during the Sunday services on the third sunday of each month. We use information from Operation World to highlight the state of the church in different countries and to encourage the congregation to pray for the church around the world.  We also host two annual events, a Spring Dinner and a Fall “Mission Sunday”. At these events we invite guest speakers to come and share their mission experiences or share information about a mission organization.

There are currently 10 MEMT team members, and we will always welcome more!

A prayer group meets in the lounge every Thursday morning, after the morning bible study, to pray for the work of our missionaries and the ongoing work of the church. All are welcome to join us for the prayer time.
