God Around the Edges

1 Cor 13:12 “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.”
2 Cor 3:18 “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

There are benefits of waking earlier than needed on a Sunday morning. After a fantastic Saturday of ministry, followed up by a very late night, I decided that since I didn’t have to wake up extra early the next day, I would enjoy a long-awaited, much-needed sleep-in. Despite my intentions, I woke at dawn. As my peepers gently opened, I saw an unusual glow around the edges of my heavy and darkly-coloured curtain. Wondering what was going on (like, was it a strange light being directed from next door? ...the sun reflecting off something parked across the way? …the second coming?) I flung my curtains back and saw the most uniquely-coloured and -clouded sky at sunrise I think I’ve ever seen. “Wow!” It caused me to literally gasp, to ponder and then proclaim:
"Oh Father God, Your love for us and Your glory is vast, unfathomable and covers us so richly. What wonder and mystery You contain. Thank You for reminders of Your unique-ness, Your presence, and love today. All praise and glory to You. Amen and amen."
Seeing His glory and majesty portrayed in such a brilliant natural painting was an excellent reminder to me to look for His radiance around the edges of whatever may 'curtain' my view as I travelled throughout the day and into the week.

While we may see through a “glass darkly” (1 Cor 13:12), God’s evidence, His presence, His provision, His might, His glory is all around us. How often do we miss it because we choose not to wake up (literally or metaphorically) when He’s prompting us to see "the goodness of the Lord…” (Ps 27:13; 109:21; 23:6)? Or perhaps our circumstances are so heavily curtaining our view that we, with tunnelled vision, merely focus on the curtain. If we would peer at and around the edges, we would see His light shining and His beauty beckoning, encouraging us saying: “Precious Child of Promise, fling back the curtain; come see that I am alive for you today”.
I encourage you to look for God’s radiance, our God-all-about-us, God-at-work-for-us, God-with-us, around the edges of whatever issue, challenge, setback, illness, or conflict you’re facing, then fling back that curtain to expose His possibility, energy and brilliance for you.

Oh, and by the way, I have no regrets about missing that sleep-in! 😉
