About This Blog...

"You, O Lord, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall. As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the Lord?  And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn." Psalm 18"28-36

Ever feel afraid?  Overwhelmed?  Insecure?  Inadequate?  Under-equipped?  You’re not alone!  This month I’ve had opportunity to face some of these “giants” myself.  The Lord took me to Psalm 18, specifically verses 28-36 and I’ve clung to them, savouring the promises and images. Not unlike David, I’ve cried “With my God I can…! using these promises as my “five smooth stones”.  Here’s the “Belinda Revised Version”…

You cause my lamp to be lighted and to shine; the Lord my God illumines my darkness.  The things I cannot see and cannot understand, You make clear to me.

For by You I can run through a troop.  With my God, I can move swiftly and unhindered through a crowd…regiment of soldiers even!  My enemies won’t hamper me because my God is with me!  And by my God I can leap over a wall.  You give me the ability to scale and deal with any obstacles with strength, agility and poise.

As for God, His way is perfect!  The Word of the Lord is tested and tried.  It has fulfilled all quality control requirements and has passed all tests which have been rigorous to find all possible flaws and frailties.  God is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.  He’s there ready and waiting to protect and cover me.  For Who is God except the Lord?  Or who is the Rock, save our God, the God Who girds me with strength?  My God reinforces me with a core strength and stability that enables me to stand strong and sure.  Who makes my way perfect (complete)?  You do!

You make my feet like hind’s feet so I am able to stand firmly and make progress on the dangerous heights of testing and trouble; You set me securely upon high places where I will be seen, observed and have opportunity to be a witness and example.  God is the One Who positions me there and as He does so, He places me with stability.  I’m safe!  I’m not teetering, nor need I be afraid of falling!

You teach my hands to war.  God shows me what needs to be done and how to do it.  He equips me with all I need.  My arms can bend a bow of bronze.  With my God, I’m able to do supernaturally what I can’t do naturally.

You have also given me the shield of Your salvation.  And Your right hand has held me up; Your gentleness and condescension have made me great.  You are ever-present with me.  Your right hand sustains me, lifts me up, helps me overcome.  You bend down to make me great.  You cause me to be fruitful and successful in whatever You call me to, wherever You call me to do it.

You have given me plenty of room for my steps under me, so that my feet will not turn and will not slip. The way is broad. With my God, I will not easily fall or fail. My God has put safeguards in place.

Ahhh…a sigh of relief and release.  So glad we’re on the giant-slayer’s team!  With our God, WE CAN...!
